The Quinta dos Poços

Our history

Quinta dos Poços, located in the emblematic demarcated region of the Douro, is a wine producer of excellence, known for its dedication to authenticity and quality. With a distinctive selection of reds, rosés and Ports, including award-winning Vintage wines, Quinta dos Poços stands out among the wine producers in the Douro.

Its vineyards, made up of the region’s best grape varieties, such as Touriga Nacional, produce wines praised for their unique characteristics and highly valued by connoisseurs. Ideal for celebrating special moments, each bottle reflects the elegance and tradition of the Douro.

In 1986, the property was acquired by the family of Prof. Dr. José Manuel da Costa Mesquita Guimarães, who began a process of revitalizing the quinta.

This process included planting new vineyards, modernizing cultivation and production techniques and building a new winery. Today, Quinta dos Poços covers 25 hectares, 21 of which are dedicated to vines, growing red varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz, and white varieties such as Arinto, Gouveio and Viosinho.

Quinta dos Poços’ production is characterized by small quantities, focusing on the excellence of its wines. Each year, around 40,000 high-end bottles are bottled, especially the Vintage Ports, which have won several awards in international competitions.

For example, Quinta dos Poços Vintage Port 2017 was awarded the Silver Medal at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2020. The dedication of the Mesquita Guimarães family is reflected in the quality of their wines.
